How Autocorrect Works

KeyCorrect quietly runs in the background as you type in any text field on any website. The moment you finish a word and press the Space key, it checks if that word looks like a typo.

1
You type a word, for example "mogic".
2
You press the Space key to move on to the next word.
3
KeyCorrect detects the typo and instantly replaces it with "magic"happened.

The correction happens the moment you press Space

Undoing an Autocorrection

Sometimes KeyCorrect corrects a word you actually intended to type or maybe you don't like the correction. No problem, you can undo any correction instantly by pressing Backspace

1
KeyCorrect corrects your word, for example mogic magic.
2
You press Backspace. KeyCorrect immediately reverts back to your original word and pauses itself completely so it doesn't get in your way.
3
Now you are free to edit or retype the word however you want. KeyCorrect will not interfere at all while you do this.
4
Once you press Space and move on to the next word, KeyCorrect quietly turns itself back on and continues correcting as normal.

Think of it like a polite assistant, after you push back, it steps aside and lets you handle it, then gets back to helping once you have moved on.

Settings

Open the KeyCorrect popup and click the Profile icon to find these options.

I Speak In:

English / Spanish / French / German

You can switch the autocorrect language between English, French, and Spanish. Changing the language initializes a new dictionary in the background, which can take a moment.

After changing the language, wait a few seconds then restart your browser. If things still seem off, uninstall and reinstall the extension, then change the language before doing anything else.

Revert on Backspace

Controls what happens when you press Backspace right after an autocorrection.

ON

Pressing Backspace reverts the correction back to your original word and pauses extension.

OFF

Backspace behaves normally, it just deletes one character from the corrected word.

Auto Whitelist (Recommended to turn it ON)

KeyCorrect keeps a whitelist, a personal list of words it promises never to touch, even if they look like typos. Auto Whitelist fills that list automatically.

ON

When you undo a correction with Backspace, that word is automatically added to your whitelist. KeyCorrect will never touch it again.

OFF (Default)

KeyCorrect will not remember your custom words. The next time you type the same word it will try to correct it again.

It is recommended to turn it on because it lets KeyCorrect learn from your typing over time and personalize corrections to match how you write. Everything happens locally.

Ignore UPPERCASE Words

When turned on, KeyCorrect will ignore any word that contains uppercase letters, this includes words like CRM, JavaScript, HackerNews etc...

Note: words with only a single capital letter, like Mogic or Tecnology, will still be corrected typos.

Highlight Autocorrection

When a correction or text snippet replacement happens, KeyCorrect briefly highlights the surrounding paragraph with a subtle orange glow, a quick signal that says "something just changed here."

Manage Whitelist

Clicking the Manage Whitelist button opens a dedicated page where you can see every word that KeyCorrect has been told to ignore. From there you can remove words if you change your mind and want KeyCorrect to start correcting them again.

If a word was added to the whitelist by Auto Whitelist and you want KeyCorrect to correct it again, just find it on the whitelist page and delete it.

Text Snippets

Snippets let you create your own personal shortcuts. Type a short trigger word and KeyCorrect expands it into a full phrase the moment you press Space.

Important Tips

Avoid symbols like / in trigger words. Many websites have their own built-in shortcut for symbols, for example, Notion opens a command menu when you type /, which will conflict with your snippet. Stick to plain letters and numbers for trigger words e.g. ty1 instead of /ty

Snippets will not fire if the trigger word is whitelisted. If a snippet suddenly stops working, open the whitelist and check whether the trigger word is in there. If it is, remove it and the snippet will start working again.
